DAVIS, Nita Crockett BrowningJune 10, 1926 -September 20, 2013. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alota Crockett Browning and Thomas Jackson Browning; her best friend and husband, Elliott Truitt Davis. She is survived by her daughter, Tanya Alota Davis-Barlar and her saintly son-in-law, Jerry Barlar. She was a pioneer and champion for persons with intellectual developmental disabilities. She started the first Girl Scout troop at Clover Bottom Developmental Center and the troop excitedly attended their first overnight campout with many other girl scouts. She pioneered the first workshop for intellectual developmental disabled persons on the Clover Bottom campus. Nita willingly and unconsciously became a mentor, friend, and role model to many of her co-workers and family. Visitation will be Sunday, September 22, 2013, 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Hibbett & Hailey Funeral Home & 1hr prior to service at church. The celebration service will be at her childhood church Andrew Price United Methodist Church on Monday, September 23, 2013 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Jeremy Squires officiating. Interment will follow at Hermitage Memorial Gardens. Honorary Pallbearers are the Donelson High School Class of 1944, the MTSU '40's Bunch, the Bunko Girls, current and former colleagues of the Department of Intellectual Developmental Disabilities. Pallbearers are Eric Duarte, Andy Mangrum, John Bevans, Tom Summers, GG Mullins, and Allen Herald. A special thank you to the Saint Thomas Medical Group and Doctors, special neighbors at Lake Chateau, some of the staff and residents at Maristone of Franklin, wonderfully caring staff of NHC of Franklin, Avalon Hospice, Brentwood UMC & the Joyful Noise Sunday School Class.
