B.W. Rogers, 92-year-old former Woodward resident, died Monday, Feb. 5, in Mercy Hospital, Independence, Kans. Funeral services were held Saturday in the Mooreland of God Assembly Church with the Rev. Gary Mitchell, pastor, officiating.
Burial followed in Mooreland Cemetery under direction of Billings Funeral Home.
Bryan Walter Rogers was born in Pike, Tex., on April 24, 1897, the son of Walter and Mary Rogers. He came as a child with his parents to homestead in Major county.
Rogers attended school in Major county and farmed until being drafted in WWI, where he served as a medic. After service he returned to the farm.
On December 25,1932, he was married to Margaret Phillips in Major county. They made their home near Sherman and moved to Woodward in the fall of 1947, where they owned and operated a help-yourself laundry.
In 1952 they moved to Arkansas City, Kans., where he was employed at the Dixie Portland Flour Mill.
She preceded him in death on November 7, 1957.
Following his retirement in 1975, he moved to Independence, Kans.
Survivors include five sons, Benjamin Norman of Flemington, Mo., Jesse David of Harrison, Ark., Philip Joel of Stockton, Mo., John Calvin of Geuda Springs, Kans.., and Cleophas Claude of Winfield, Kans.; two daughters, Mrs. Edna Claudine
Frier of Carthage, Mo., and Mrs. Phyllis Jane Haines, Independence, Kans.; 16 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers, one sister, one grandchild and one great grandchild.
