                          DEATHS.
                            _____

Miss Agnes Gillis, whose death has momentarily been expected for the past two weeks, passed peacefully agway about 5 o'clock on Monday evening, January 30, aged 67 years. Her death was due to the decay of old age, hastened by an attack of grippe. She has lived in this city for the past 22 years, coming here from Lowell, Mass. She was a cousin of General George Stark, who was [vice-] president [and director] of the N. P. road in 1877, through whose influence she came to Brainerd. She was a lady of culture and refinement, highly educated, and possessing a wonderful fund of information. She took an active interest in all public affairs for the material, moral and intellectual advancement of the community, consequently was loved and respected by all who knew her. She was an active member of St. Paul's church, and was foremost in all church work. She had considerable means when she first came here, which she eventually lost through real estate investments until in her later years, she was supported in a measure by influential and wealthy friends in the east. The funeral services occurred yesterday morning at 10:30 o'clock, at St. Paul's Episcopal church, Rev. Chas. F. Kite conducting the services. The remains were shipped to Lowell, Mass., her childhood's home for burial, this being her expressed wish. (Brainerd Dispatch, 03 February 1899, p. 1, c. 3)
