He was born November 1, 1928, at Boone County, a son of the late Arlie and Emma Jean Chandler Chambers. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, where he was a shipfitter third class from 1945 to 1947, and retired from Kaiser Aluminum with 28 years of service. Carl and his late wife, Beverly, were charter members of Grace Gospel Baptist Church and he was a current member of Ripley Baptist Temple. He was a former pastor at Fairplain Union Church, Cottageville Community Church, Sugar Creek Church and Fisher Memorial Church. He was a member of American Legion Post 107, Ripley.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Beverly Joyce Westfall Chambers; brothers, Arlie Chambers Jr., John Chambers and Meredith Chambers; and a sister, Virginia DuWaldt.
He is survived by sons, Carl "Jay" Chambers Jr. and his wife, Faye, of Glenville, David Arlie Chambers and his wife, Kathy, of Knoxville, Tenn., and Phillip Dwayne Chambers and his wife, Lynn, of Charlotte, N.C.; daughters, Marsha Gayle Dennison and her husband, Paul, of Fairmont and Sandra Joyce Cooper and her husband, Jim, of Spencer; brothers, Robert Chambers, Dennis Chambers, Harold Chambers, Lowell Chambers and William Douglas Chambers; sister, Melinda Schalz; grandchildren, Mandy Barger, Jennifer Rekos, Shannon Dennison, Corey Chambers, Lindsey Estep, T.J. Chambers, Justin Cooper, Hannah Trickett, A.J. Cooper, Casey Chambers and Caitlyn Chambers; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, September 27, at Ripley Baptist Temple with Pastor Rick Perrine and Evangelist Justin Cooper officiating. Burial with military rites provided by VFW Post 107 will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Ripley.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Ripley Baptist Temple and one hour prior to the service at the church.
