Mr. Crane died Friday (Sept. 11, 1998) at his home following a lengthy illness.
He was born May 9, 1914, in Grand Meadow, grew up in East Cranewood, rural Grand Meadow, and attended Grand Meadow schools. He married the former Eleanor E. Everts May 9, 1936, at Immanuel Lutheran Church. The couple farmed in rural Racine until he retired in the early 1970s; they continued to live on the farm. Mr. Crane was active in soil conservation and received an award from Mower County in 1960 for his conservation efforts. He was a dairy herd tester for the Dairy Herd Improvement Association. The couple travelled extensively in the United States and abroad and both enjoyed gardening.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Robert of Columbia, Md., and David of Minneapolis; two daughters, Patricia Emerson of Los Angeles and Joyce (Mrs. Fred) Baldwin of Minneapolis; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Wesley of Tulsa and Donald of Round Lake, Ill.; and two sisters, Florence (Mrs. Paul) Howard of Los Angeles and Dorothy (Mrs. Elmer) Beltz of Palmdale, Ca. He was preceded in death by one sister.
Friends may call at the Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday and at the church an hour before the service.
