Flora E. (Turner) Pyles, 88, of Union Star, passed away on Monday, September 23, 2013 at Carriage Square Health Care Center after a short illness.

Flora was born on October 9, 1924 near King City, Mo., to Harley J. and Ida (Ballentine) Turner.

She attended Waldo rural school near King City and graduated from the Helena Missouri High School. After high school, she attended Platt-Gard Business University in St. Joseph.

She lived most of her life in the St. Joseph area until moving to Union Star in 1991. She was a member of Woodson Chapel Christian Church in St. Joseph and for the past several years has attended the Union Star United Methodist Church. She was also a member of Letters Carriers Auxiliary #117 of St. Joseph and was a 4-H Leader in Andrew County for several years and a member of the DeKalb County Oats Committee and also served as secretary of the group.

Flora worked for the former Smith Brother's Manufacturing and retired from Stetson Hat Company in 1987. She also was the Union Star Social Reporter for the Tri-County News.

On June 1, 1946, she married Bert W. Pyles in Olathe, Kan. He preceded her in death in 1993.

She was also preceded by her parents; a daughter, Virginia; and a son, James.

Survivors include daughter, Barbara Kelly (Robert); son, Richard Pyles (Kari); daughter-in-law, Loleta Pyles; nine grandchildren, Todd, Ginny, Katie, Jason, Eric Pyles and Charles, Patrick, Andrew and Gailynn Kelly; two great-grandchildren, Mia Pyles and Natalie Rowland.

Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday, Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel.

Interment: Savannah Cemetery, Savannah, Mo.
