Viola Marie was born in Lampasas, Texas, to the late Jerome and Mamie Kiel Blackburn. After graduation from high school, she married Albert James "Jim" Matthews on May 31, 1941, in Burnet, Texas. After marriage the young couple lived in Big Lake for two years, and then lived in Lampasas County for 15 years before moving to Morgan, Texas, in 1960 where Albert worked as a ranch manager and Marie worked as a seamstress in a sewing factory. After the death of her husband, Albert, she later married Mr. Clyde Owens. Marie was a member of the Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Albert Matthews, on February 18, 1993; and her second husband, Clyde Owens.
Survivors include son, Tom Matthews, of Seymour; daughter, Joan Vorwerk, of San Saba; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; other relatives and numerous friends.
