They were onboard the Royal Mail Ship "Leinster", which was sunk by torpedoes from a German Submarine, whilst enroute from Kingstown [now Dun Laoghaire], Co. Dublin, to Holyhead, Anglesey, North Wales, on the morning of 10 October 1918.
Of the five women, only the bodies of Sophie Barrett, Anna Maud Barry and Clare McNally were recovered.
Her name is commemorated on a panel at York Minster War Memorial.

Margaret Mary Pia Cantillon, daughter of Denis Cantillon and Mary Ellen Cantillon formerly Mahony, was born at the family home Rock Farm, Carrignavar, Cork, on 27 May 1877.
Her father was a Farmer.
In the 1901 census, the family were living at Little Island, Co. Cork, where Denis was a local Justice of the Peace, and a Quarry Owner.
The family were still living there in 1911.
Marriage
on 12 April 1918, at Glounthaune Church, Theodore Francis Dillon, a widower, a Captain in the Royal Army Medical Corps, from 17 Claw Street, Cardiff, son of Francis Dillon, a Brewer, married Margaret Mary Pia Cantillon, from Na Corriga, Little Island, Cork, daughter of John ? Cantillon, a Farmer.
The witnesses were,
Joseph Francis Dillon,
Elenor C. Cantillon [her older sister]
Theodore Dillon married Eileen Keating on 22 November 1919. He died in Cardiff in 1936, aged 64.
