QUIVER-FULL QUINTET OF LEDBETTER SONS
Richard Ledbetter II or Junior (1700-1767) was the namesake descendant, among a quiver-full quintet of Ledbetter sons, produced from the Circa 1688 Marriage of father Richard Ledbetter, Senior or I (4 July 1666-1759) and mother Honour (Coleman) Ledbetter (1675-1759).
Birthdate of 12 August 1700 has been determined for Richard Ledbetter II (i.e., Richard Ledbetter, Junior), along with a nativity in Bristol Parish (now within Petersburg City), Charles City County, Colonial Virginia. As Charles City County was partitioned, Prince George County and Dinwiddie County, VA, also were early childhood and young adulthood residences of Richard Ledbetter II, prior to Ledbetter Family migration to Brunswick County, VA.
Vital information qualifying notation:
In addition to the Richard Ledbetter II specific birthdate of 12 August 1700 (yielded from diligent family history research, but not chiseled in stone), some reputable researchers have listed the Richard Ledbetter II birth year (with and without day & month specificity):
1. 1700;
2. Circa 1700;
3. About 1700;
4. Circa 1717;
5. 12 August 1717;
6. 1690;
7. Circa 1690;
8. About 1690;
9. 4 July 1690.
Among Ledbetter Family History ahnentafel and ancestral charts, there is apparent agreement (but no month and year specificity), regarding the Circa 1767 death of Richard Ledbetter, Jr. or II. The Circa 1767 death of Richard Ledbetter, Jr. or II (death-age around 67, calculated using an A.D. 1700 birth-year), happened nigh unto the Virginia and North Carolina state borderline, in rural southern Brunswick County, southeastern Virginia, near the present-day unincorporated hamlet of White Plains, VA.
LEDBETTER PLANTATIONS
BRUNSWICK COUNTY, VIRGINIA
The Richard Ledbetter Farm of 320 acres (equal to 1/2 mile square of territory, with 640 acres equaling a square mile) was part of an approximate 1,500-acre complex of adjoining Ledbetter Plantations (about 2.5 miles square), located at the confluence of Rattlesnake Creek and Meherrin River, by White Oak Swamp, in southern Brunswick County, southeastern Virginia. Ledbetter Plantation, and more specifically, Richard Ledbetter II Farm, Global Positioning System (GPS) Coordinates are: Latitude: 36.619868 & Longitude: -77.932649.
The Richard Ledbetter Farm, richly blessed with fertile soil and abundant forests, was located about 3 miles southeast of the modern-day hamlet of White Plains, Brunswick County, Virginia. Lawrenceville, County Seat of Brunswick County, VA, is about 14 miles north of where the Richard Ledbetter Farm was situated in the 1700s. The Virginia and North Carolina borderline is about 8 miles due south of this southern Brunswick County, VA, geographic location.
Throughout 400 years (A.D. 1600s to 2000s) of Brunswick County, VA, History, principal products have included: tobacco, cotton, soybeans, wheat, corn, hay, swine or hogs (hams, bacon, other pork products), cattle (beef), poultry (chickens & turkeys), equine breeding (horses & mules), and merchantable timber (lumber & pulpwood). Even in modern times, much of Brunswick County, Virginia, remains a very rural, highly-productive area of agricultural and forest products.
RICHARD LEDBETTER I & HONOUR LEDBETTER:
CHILDREN OF THEIR CIRCA 1688 MARRIAGE
Children of the circa 1688 marriage union of Richard Ledbetter I and Honour Ledbetter (including 5 sons but no known daughters), hereinafter are declared with basic vital information:
Henry LEDBETTER, son, born circa 1690;
Richard LEDBETTER II, son,
born on or about 12 August 1700,
Charles City, Charles County, VA;
died circa 1751 in Brunswick County, VA;
John LEDBETTER, son, born circa 1701;
Charles LEDBETTER, son, born circa 1703;
William LEDBETTER, son, born circa 1705.
Noteworthy is the 10-year "birth gap" (1690-1700), between Henry Ledbetter and Richard Ledbetter. Perhaps more children (sons or daughters) were born during this 10-year time period; however, no more children's birth records have been discovered for parents Richard Ledbetter I (1666-1759) and Honour Ledbetter (1670-1750).
RICHARD LEDBETTER II:
1ST MARRIAGE WITH JOHANNAH ("HANNAH" or "HANNA")
First wife of Richard Ledbetter II was Johannah (Hannah or Hanna) Ledbetter; marriage was about 1725 in Prince George County, Virginia. The total number of children (sons and daughters), born of the British Colonial Era marriage of Richard Ledbetter II and Johannah (Hannah or Hanna) Ledbetter, have been difficult to ascertain. However, family history research thus far, in progress more than 40 years (1974-2017) by this biographer, identifies 4 Ledbetter children (4 sons), whose dear names are declared hereinafter:
1. Drury LEDBETTER, born 24 November 1734, Brunswick County, Virginia, "Drury, Son of Richard and Johannah Ledbetter, born ye 24 Novr 1734", baptized as recorded in Bristol Parish Vestry & Registry, Brick Church (Blandford Anglican or Episcopal Church), Prince George County, Petersburg, VA., American Revolutionary War Veteran (Virginia Military Service, Received Land Grant from United States Government in Payment for American Rev. War Military Service;

RICHARD LEDBETTER & WIFE
JOHANNAH (HANNAH OR HANNA):
MARRIAGE COMMENTARY
Johannah (Hannah or Hanna) Ledbetter apparently died during the infancy of William Ledbetter, Sr. (born 22 March 1740), perhaps soon after this 22 March 1740 childbirth. The death of Johannah (Hannah or Hanna) Ledbetter factually is declared circa 1740, because a second marriage of Richard Ledbetter, Jr. unto Mary Walton occurred in 1741, at Brunswick County, Virginia. No divorce or marital separation was recorded; therefore, a reasonable conclusion is that the husband and wife team of Richard Ledbetter, Jr. and Johannah (Hannah) Ledbetter were married until death did them part...
RICHARD LEDBETTER II:
2ND MARRIAGE WITH MARY WALTON
Second Marriage of Richard Ledbetter II, with Mary Walton (1741), is documented in several documents and publications, including a book, entitled, "Brunswick County, Virginia, Marriages 1732-1853, by John Vogt & T. William Kethley (Publ. 1988).

WALTON FAMILY ANCESTRY OF
MARY (WALTON) LEDBETTER
Recent Ledbetter Family History Research, upon 30 March 2017 and 18 February 2020, by this Biographer, Dean Ledbetter, indicates Mary Walton was a Daughter of George Walton.
In 1737, a Land Gift Deed of Title Transfer from George Walton to his Daughter Mary, Wife of Richard Ledbetter, is recorded in Brunswick County (VA) Order Book 2, Page 50, Register of Deeds, Brunswick County Courthouse, Lawrenceville, VA. This Land Gift Deed is an Original Source and Official Government Record, which verifies the fact of the Marriage of Mary Walton & Richard Ledbetter.
Further, the 1737 Land Gift Deed of Title Transfer from George Walton to his Daughter, Mary (Walton) Ledbetter, Wife of Richard Ledbetter, further is documented in an excellent book, entitled, "Historical Southern Families, Volume I", Chapter on "History of Charles City and Isle of Wight" (Virginia), Page 306, Book Author: John Bennett Boddie, Publisher: Clearfield Company, Redwood City, California, Published: 1957.
Moreover, 2nd Marriage of Richard Ledbetter II to Mary Walton (1741) is documented in an excellent book, entitled, "Brunswick County, Virginia, Marriages 1732-1853", by John Vogt & T. William Kethley (Published in 1988).
As recorded in the previous documents and publications, George Walton, whose fine farm in Brunswick County, Virginia, adjoined the Henry Ledbetter Farm and Richard Ledbetter Farm, was cited in the Henry Ledbetter Last Will & Testament, dated 23 September 1749.
Henry Ledbetter (1690-1751), brother of Richard Ledbetter II (1700-1767), stated in his 23 September 1749 Last Will & Testament, that the Henry Ledbetter real estate property holdings in Brunswick County, VA, adjoined farms of Richard Ledbetter and George Walton at White Oak Swamp, on the south side of Meherrin River, near the confluence of Rattlesnake Creek and Meherrin River.
The Richard Ledbetter mentioned within the 1749 Henry Ledbetter Will could have been either:
1. His Father, Richard Ledbetter I (1666-1759); OR,
2. His Brother, Richard Ledbetter II (1700-1767).
Notation: The 16 October 2013 treasure-trove discoveries in old records of Brunswick County, Virginia, finding both the 1749 Henry Ledbetter Last Will & Testament and the Richard Ledbetter Farm geographical position, led to a major revision of this Richard Ledbetter, Junior (or II) Memorial Tribute Biography, by Dean Ledbetter (Family History Researcher & Author). Pertinent information from the aforesaid original-source cited record of Brunswick County (Virginia), was included in this memorial tribute biography, during 16-17 October 2013.
