He played for the Charlotte Softball League in the 1950s, which included teams of City Savings Bank, Carolina Cut Rate, and was part of the Junior Optimist's Champs in 1958. He enjoyed golf at Larkhaven Golf Club.
--He met his wife, Eleanor Keesler, through work at Paramount Pictures, where she was also employed at the time. They were married 57 years. They had a daughter, Cheryl, and a grandson.
