Funeral services for Mr. Stuart Allen Neitzel will be held on Friday, September 27, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home in Marksville with Reverend Carolyn Fletcher officiating. Burial will be next to his parents in Cushman Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Marksville.

Mr. Neitzel, age 65, of Marksville, passed away in Jennings, LA on Friday, September 20, 2013, after a short illness. Stuart's parents, who preceded him in death, were Robert Stuart Neitzel and Gwendolyn Thomas Neitzel. He was born in Marksville and graduated from Marksville High School. After graduating from high school, Stuart joined the Navy and served on submarines as a sonar specialist.

After retiring from his Navy career, Stuart returned to Marksville and became an active participant in the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Forty and Eight organization. He served for many years in various leadership positions in those organizations and also in the Honor Guard for the funerals of veterans.

A wake for Stuart will be held on Thursday, September 26, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Hixson Brothers Funeral Home in Marksville and will resume at 8:00 a.m. on Friday.

He is survived by his sister, Sarah C. Neitzel, of Lake Oswego, OR, first cousins, Alice Odom, of Williamsburg, VA, Kay (George) McKemie, of Palmyra, VA, and Dale (Gordon) McWilliams of San Pedro, CA, other relatives throughout the U. S., and his companion for the last 2.5 years, Mona Trahan, who was a source of strength and comfort to him during his short illness. Stuart will be missed by his family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the Marksville Public Library.
