He was Knighted by St. Louis, he followed the latter during several wars, first against the English in Poitou (battle of Taillebourg in 1242), then during the seventh crusade in 1249. He died during a stopover at Cyprus.
He married in 1240 Marie, daughter of Archambaud VIII Lord de Bourbon and of Béatrice de Montluçon, and had:
