John I de Dreux was the count of Dreux and Braine, He was the son of Robert III, count de Dreux and Braine, and of Aenor de Saint-Valéry.
He was Knighted by St. Louis, he followed the latter during several wars, first against the English in Poitou (battle of Taillebourg in 1242), then during the seventh crusade in 1249. He died during a stopover at Cyprus.
He married in 1240 Marie, daughter of Archambaud VIII Lord de Bourbon and of Béatrice de Montluçon, and had:
Robert IV (1241 † 1282), count of Dreux, Braine and Montfort
Yolande (1243 † ap.1304), married first married Amaury II († 1269), Lord of Craon, then to Jean de Trie (died 1304), count of Dammartin
Jean (1245 † ap.1275), Templar
