John and Edie had eight, possibly nine, children: Anthony, Thomas, Moses, George, Anna, John, Isaac, Arendell, and (possibly) Nathaniel.
When John died, several of his children were minors. Franklin County records show the cost of schooling as listed by Edie for Isaac and Arendell Winston between 1804 and 1812. It was this year of 1812 that Edie was remarried to Benjamin Morgan. By this time Isaac was seventeen and needed no guardian. Arendell, however, still needed a guardian and his oldest brother, Anthony, was appointed to serve in this capacity.
John gave his son, Anthony, land by a deed of gift dated 6 May 1880. His other children, except Nathan, were left land in his Will. Isaac eventually bought up shares of property devised to his brothers and sisters and his mother.
Compiled from the late Joseph S. Rowland Jr's WINSTONS OF NORTH CAROLINA & THEIR DESCENDANTS (1982) and assisted by my half-sister, Patricia Winston Norman.
