Pat was born on June 10, 1935, in Olive Branch, the daughter of Henry and Frieda Powless. She married Jimmie W. Baker on Oct. 4, 1952.
She spent her early married years as an Air Force wife, supporting her husband while he served our country. After they retired from the Air Force in 1975, they returned to Southern Illinois where they made their home. Pat drove a school bus for Egyptian School and also was at one time the owner of the Tamms Florist. She also served as a Pink Lady at St. Francis Hospital.
Pat and Jim enjoyed Cardinals Baseball, traveling in their motor home, spending winters in Florida and south Texas and making friends everywhere they went. Upon Jim's death in 2009, Pat moved to Louisiana to be near her daughter. She was a member of Sandy Creek Baptist Church.
Left to cherish her memory is her son, Jimmie H. Baker of McClure; daughter, Cathi Burnham and husband, Mike of Bossier City, La.; grandchildren, J. J. Baker, Bradley Anderson and wife, Shannon, Brittney Anderson and fiancé, Rich Jacobson and Brent Burnham; great-grandchildren, Payton, Josh and Ashley; great-great-grandchild, Brylee; brother, Bill Powless of Tamms; Jim's brother and sister, Mr. and Mrs. A.G. Baker of Scott City, Mo. and Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Phillips of McClure; daughter-in-law, Viola Baker of Cape Girardeau; nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and life long friends.
Alzheimer's took Pat from her family over recent years, even before the Lord took her home. The memory of her in better days will be cherished.
Services will be at 1 p.m. in Crain Funeral Home in Tamms, with the Rev. Mark Kirk officiating. Interment will be in McCrite Cemetery. Visitation for Pat will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to McCrite Cemetery or Sandy Creek Baptist Church.
