SLATON- Services for Gladys Walls, 87, of Slaton and formerly of El Paso, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2013 at Slaton's First United Methodist Church with Rev. Jo Gay and Rev. Kirk Kitchens officiating. Burial will be at El Paso's Evergreen Cemetery at 2 p.m. (MDT) Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013 under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton.

Gladys was born in Riesel, Texas on Sept. 12, 1926.

She passed from this life surrounded by her family Sept. 21, 2013. Gladys was raised in Riesel.

She graduated from Sam Houston State with a BA in Education. She began her teaching career in a one room school house in Perry, Texas and retired from teaching after a 40 year career from El Paso ISD. She also taught in the communities of Anton and Friona. She was also active with Slaton's Kids Meal program and in teaching English to the Mexican youth.

She was a member of Hereford's chapter of the Eastern Star #312, a 25 year member and past president of Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority. She was also a member of Slaton's Athenian Study Club, the Women's Division of the Chamber of Commerce, Kappa Kappa Iota Sorority, El Paso's St. Paul Methodist Church where she was church secretary for several years, and a present member of Slaton's First United Methodist Church. Gladys moved to Slaton in 2005.

She was preceded her in death by her first husband, David McVey in 1984; second husband, Gene Walls in 2001; daughter, Linda McVey in 2010; and siblings, Dr. W.F. Krueger, Lorence Krueger, and Evelyn Bernard.

Her survivors include her daughter, Patsy Warshaw and husband Ronnie of Slaton; son, Zane McVey and wife Melanie of Lubbock; along with seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

There will be a family visitation on Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013 from 6 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Slaton's Senior Citizen Center or Meals on Wheels, both 230 W Lynn, Slaton, TX 79364.
