Marc Passed away Saturday afternoon, September 21, 2013, at the Mahaska Health Prtnership Hospice Services Serenity House.

Marc Gail Vanderwilt, son of Dick H. and Dolores Marie(Dazier)Vanderwilt, was born, November 29, 1949, in Des Moines, Iowa. He was raised on the family farm on the banks of the South Skunk River and attended Lacey and North Mahaska Community Schools, graduating in 1968. He futhered his education at William Penn College where he studied economics. While in college and after completing his degree in 1972, Marc lived at home and continued to help his father farm. June 17, 1972, he married the love-of his-life, Barbara Ann Nicholas, they made their home on a place one mile north of his family home and in 1981 they moved to the home place. Marc loved farming and because their farm was located near a river, he soon became a skilled bulldozer operator, building levees and terraces. Marc was an avid outdoorsman and tought his sons to work, care for and love the land and its bounty. He enjoyed hunting and cutting firewood on the many acres of timber on their farm. In addition to his farming responsibilities, Marc was employed for 20 years by Biovance, now Church and Dwight. Marc also had a passion for education and followed his father's example by serving as an 18 year member and past president of the North Mahaska Community School Board.

Marc's vamily includes his wife of 41 years, Barbara Vanderwilt of Lacey, two sons and daughters-in-law: B en and Shelby Vanderwilt of Oskaloosa and Todd and Ashley Vanderwilt of Lacey, a granddaughter, Brooklyn, a sister, Kim Vanderwilt of Indianapolis, Indiana, a sister-in-law, Pearl Vanderwilt of Oskaloosa and nephews Clark, Louis and Jedff Vanderwilt.

In addition to his parents, Marc was preceded in death by two brothers: Clair and Morgan Chester"Chet"Vanderwilt.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Wednesday, September 25, 2013, at the Central Reformed Church in Oskaloosa with Pastor Kerry Lake of Union Mills Christian Church officiating. A family prayer service will precede the service at 10:15 am in the west wing of the church. Burial will be in Union Mills Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10 am, Tuesday at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel; the family will be present fdrom 4-7 pm to greet visitors. Memorials may be made to the North Mahaska Education Foundation or the MHP Hospice Services Serenity House.
