37th Colorado Governor. A member of the Republican Party, he served as the Governor of the State of Colorado from 1973 until 1975. After attaining his Associate of Arts Degree from Glendale College in California, he served as a pilot with the United States Navy during World War II. As a result of this experience, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross Medal, three Air Medals and two Purple Heart Medals. After the war, he worked in the banking industry, prior to entering the political arena in 1950 as a member of Colorado's House of Representatives, and remained in this capacity until 1970. He served as the Colorado House Speaker on two separate occasions from 1963 to 1964 and 1967 to 1970. Vanderhoof served as Lieutenant Governor from 1971 until 1973 and succeeded Governor John Arthur Love, when Love moved onto the national level to serve as the first Director of the Office of Energy Policy.
