Nora Doris Marsh, age 89, a long time Brookfield resident, died Saturday, June 7, 2014 at Villa Ventura in Kansas City.

A funeral service will be Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Wright-Baker-Hill Funeral Home in Brookfield with Rev. David Blakely officiating. Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery in Brookfield. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Memorials to Siloam Chapel Cemetery may to left at or mailed to Wright-Baker-Hill Funeral Home, P.O. Box 496, Brookfield, MO 64628.

Doris was born in Marceline in 1924 to Russell Oldham and Ola Pollard. She was raised in Kansas City and graduated from Northeast High School. She earned her B.A. and M.B.A. Degrees from Truman University and her Specialist degree from C.M.S.U.

Teaching was always Doris' passion. She began her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse near Mendon. She taught for over 50 years, most of it with the Brookfield School District.

Family was also very important to Doris. Together she and her husband, Pete raised two sons. She was especially proud that she was able to help each of her grandchildren receive a college degree. Doris was a strong believer that every person should be treated the same no matter their socioeconomic status or the color of their skin.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, Dorothy Landtiser and one great grandchild. She is survived by her two sons, Bob and his partner, Tim Gingrich and Jim and his wife, Debby (Hall) Marsh all of Kansas City; a sister, Martha Oldham of Lawrence, Kansas; a granddaughter, Amanda Saxton and husband, Mike and two great-grandsons, Carson and Keaton of Savannah; a granddaughter, Lauren Marsh of Kansas City; and a grandson, Pete Marsh and wife, Leighanna of Kansas City.
