Obituary: Mabel Read passed away on August 14, 2006 at the age of 100 years and four months and two days. She was born to Claude and Bertha Jenkins on May 12, 1906 in Trickham, Texas. She had been a resident of Corpus Christi since 1980, formerly of Bishop, Texas. She was a homemaker, a loving mother and grandmother and a member of South Shore Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, five sisters, and her husband of 55 years, O.M. Read, and great-grandson. She is survived by two sons, Duane (Carlene) of Portland, Texas, and Joe Read of New Orleans, Louisiana; one daughter, Jeannette (Albert) Hunt of Corpus Christi, Texas; six grandchildren: Dale (Melissa) Hunt of Sugarland, Texas, Debbie Berglund of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Cheryl (Ray) Johnson of Corpus Christi, Texas, Joe Read, Jr. of Terrytown, Louisiana, Elizabeth (Pierre) Dodson of Rio Ranche, New Mexico, and Janet(Keith) Gordon of Destrehan, Louisiana; eight great-grandchildren: Kimberly Jensen, Teri Jensen, Megan Hunt, Brandon Johnson, Zackary Ficks, Aidan Gordon, Livia Dodson, Sophiana Dodson; great-great-granddaughter, Alycea Brown; step-great-grandchildren, Zack and Chris Gordon; two sisters-in-law; numerous nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. Visitation will be held between 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 16, 2006 at Seaside Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 17, 2006 at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Richard Peltz and assisted by Pastor Leona Corkill. A Graveside Service will be held at the Bangs City Cemetery on Friday, August 18, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Leona Corkill officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to South Shore Christian Church memorial fund or charity of your choice.
