Lewis Case Byram, son of William and Mercy Byrum, born September 10, 1842 in Vermillion Co., Indiana. Departed this life at the age of 78 years, 4 months, and 2 days. He died at his home. Cause of death: Heart Attack

NOTE: Lewis Case Byram is my great grandfather.

Lewis Case Byram married Alvira Margaret Roberts on December 20, 1866 in Dudley, Wapello Co., Iowa in Dudley, Wapello Co., Iowa.

AGED BLAKESBURG RESIDENT DIES

Lewis C. Byram, an old resident of Blakesburg, dropped dead at his home at 1:30 p.m. Monday, January 12. Death was due to a heart attack.

The funeral was held, yesterday from the Baptist Church at Blakesburg and interment took place in the columbia cmetery. Rev. Jonathan Lee of Ottumwa officiated.

William Byram and Edward Byram of this city, brother and nephew of the deceased, attended the funeral.

Rev. Lee returned to Blakesburg last eventing.

He moved with his family to Wapello Co., Iowa. When but a small boy of 16, he was active in the Baptist Church. He often made remarks on if he was called to duty that he was prepared to go at any time. During the Civil War he enlisted in Company B 8th Regiment of the Iowa Calvary on the 13th day of August 1863. Seved two years and was honorably discharged August 13, 1865 at Macon, Georgia. While serving his county's call he was captured in Noonan, Georgia on July 30, 1864 and sent to Andersonville Prison. Then was paroled December 16, 1864 at Charleston, South Carolina. He reported to Camp Paole Md., on December 24, 1864.

After his discharge, Mr. Byram returned to Iowa and was married to Alvira Roberts on December 20, 1866. To this union were born five children, Mrs. Dela Sheperd, and Sarah M. now deceased, three sons William Frances and Charles Benjemmon Byrum of Blakesburg, Iowa and Leonard Wilson Byrum of Eddyville, Iowa. The sons, faithful wife, and the following relatives still mourn his department.

One brother, Willim Byrum of Ottumwa, Iowa, 7 grandchildren, Mrs. Bertha Greenwald of Nebraska, Leonard Byrum of Eddyville, Iowa, Fay, Grace and Owen Byrum of Blakesburg, Iowa.

Note: Our original Family Name was Byram, but a census taker changed the name from Byram to Byrum.
