MRS. ROBERT CHIPMAN IS LAID TO REST

Mrs. Robert Chipman, beloved mother, passed away in a Kerrville hospital on Friday, August 25, 1961, after an extended illness, and funeral services for her were conducted in the Plummer Funeral Home Chapel, Monday afternoon, August 28, 1961, at 3 o’clock. Rev. T. J. Smith of Pearsall was assisted by Mr. Carl Wheeler of Medina, when he officiated at the funeral service to pay the beloved mother a beautiful tribute. Mr. Smith is the great-grandson of the late R. A. Chipman and a grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Bill Riggs of Bandera. Casket carriers who served to carry her to her last resting place in the Bandera cemetery were Bill Smith, Ed Welch, Adolph Stricker, E. Lindner, Fred Hamilton, and Clay Wright.

Mrs. Carrie Bell Chipman was born in Bedford, Indiana, on November 12, 1872, the daughter of John A. and Susan Ragsdale Head. She was baptized into the Re-Organized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on August 1st, 1909, and had been a devoted member of the church for fifty-two years.

On June 21, 1906, she was happily married to Robert Chipman, who preceded her in death.

She is survived by two sons, Harry Hamilton of Kerrville and Montie Chipman of Winslow, Arizona; one daughter, Mrs. Guy Ferguson of Bandera; three step-children, Herbert Chipman of Oil City, Louisiana, Clarence Chipman of Kerrville and Mrs. Laura Murdock of Springfield, Oregon; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Head of Kansas and Homer Head of Washington, D.C.; three sisters, Mrs. Fannie Holt and Mrs. Sallie Black of Houston and Mrs. Grace Dorow of Selma, California.

Relatives who came from out-of-town to pay honor to their beloved one were Mrs. Chipman’s sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Black of Houston and their son, Raymond, of LaPorte, and her brother, Homer Head and wife of Washington, D.C., who came in by plane. Their daughter, Mrs. Hazel Lee Wallace came in also by plane from Florida. Others were Mr. and Mrs. Harold North, Mrs. Herman Thalmann, Mrs. Lunette Havlick of Houston; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Holdsworth, Clarence Chipman, Harry Hamilton, Mr. and Mrs. Claud Gray, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Gray, Mrs. Della Clark and daughter, Lillie, Mr. and Mrs. Montie Chipman of Winslow, Arizona, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Stabler of Bryan, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Fried, of San Antonio; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Sutherland , Mrs. Chas. Smith, Carl Wheeler of Medina; Mrs. A. Meadows of Hunt; Mrs. J. P. Anderwald of San Antonio; Dee Chipman of Center Point; Mrs. Luther Smith and son and Rev. T. J. Smith of Pearsall.

Mrs. Chipman was loved by all who knew her, for her gentle, kindly ways, and will be missed by hundreds of relatives and friends in this community.

A noon meal was served to the relatives of Mrs. Chipman on Monday at the Re-Organized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
