Dr. Joshua Tyler was born in Brookfield on August 12th, 1758 to Abner Tyler and Hannah Stevens. In 1780 he married Judith Ayers also of Brookfield, and soon after they moved to Chesterfield, NH. They had 14 children;

The couple moved to the Centre Village of Chesterfield, New Hampshire where he built a large house. He practiced his profession as a physician for many years in Chesterfield, and died on June 11th, 1807 at forty-nine years of age. Judith died forty-seven years later in 1854, aged ninety-one.

He also enlisted to Captain Daniel Gilbert's company of Brookfield and Western as a private. This company served at the Battle of Bennington, and at Half Moon, from July 13th to September 2nd, 1777.
