John Benjamin Kirschner was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on October 10, 1862 to Frederick and Catherina Schussler Kirschner. John had at least six sisters: Mary, Catherine Francis, Lena, Anna, Margaret, and Mary and at least three brothers: Charles, Jacob, and Arthur. His mother had 11 children, but I have been unable to locate one of them.) He never attended school. In November 1891, he married Augusta Christina “Gustie” Kritsch, who was 11 years his junior. They had four children: Charles Fred “Charlie” Kirschner, Edward Francis Kirschner Sr., Arthur Kirschner, and Florence Marie Kirschner Smith. Arthur died as a young child in 1898. John and Gustie made their home on Patterson Street in Indianapolis, IN. He worked as a book binder, a machinist, a delivery driver, a laborer in a packing house, and a coal tamper/inspector for the power and light company. He died of a coronary occlusion on January 25, 1936.
