Glen Bates, 67, of North Canton, died Saturday (Nov. 12, 2005) with his family
by his side.
He was born Jan. 26, 1938, in Cambridge, son of Harold and Anna Isabelle
(Armstrong) Bates and was raised by his grandparents, Frank and Mary Sherrard.
Mr. Bates served in the U.S. Navy and worked for Custom Auto Body. He was a
member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles 2223, North Canton, and FOE 386,
Cambridge. He enjoyed hot rods, car shows and NASCAR, and bowling and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parent and grandparents.
He leaves his wife of 32 years, Alta; sons, Steve (Anna) Bates and Mark Bates,
all of Carrollton, and Steve Keim of Uniontown; grandchildren, Melissa Bates
and Cody Bates of Carrollton and Travis Keim of Uniontown; siblings, Joan
Blair and Reta Miller of Cambridge and Donald Bates of West Salem; half
siblings, Dorothy, Betty, Ruth Ann, Dean Bates and Leslie Bates; faithful pet
dog, Ty; and numerous other friends and relatives.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm Tuesday and one hour prior to the
10 am funeral service Wednesday at Maple Grove Mennonite Church. Pastors
Myron Weaver and Vernon Hostetler will officiate.
Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetary.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to assist Alta Bates would be
greatly appreciated.
