Born in Clarendon County, he was a son of Joe S. Kelly Sr. and Margaret Garnett Kelly. Mr. Kelly was a 1974 graduate of Sumter High School. He was formerly employed by the Kaydon Corp. and was currently employed by A & P Recycling. He was a member of Home Branch Baptist Church and attended Smithville Evangelical Baptist Church. He was a team member of Kelly's Heroes in the American Cancer Society Relay for Life, in honor of his wife, Cheryl.
Survivors besides his parents of Sumter include three sons, Don A. "D.J." Kelly Jr. and his wife, Amanda, Joshua S. Kelly and Patrick K. Kelly, all of Sumter; two grandchildren, Zachary Chase Springs and Abigail Gracelyn Kelly; a brother, Joe S. "Joey" Kelly Jr. of Lexington; two sisters, Sara Jo K. Kent and her husband, Kevin, of Pontiac, and Lisa K. Krouse and her husband, Paul, of Sumter; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Hudson, the Rev. Sim Smith and the Rev. Freddie Gaymon officiating.
