BOWMAN -- George F. Jankowski, 60, Bowman, died Oct. 26, 1997, in a Bowman hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MST Wednesday, at Bowman Lutheran Church, with the Revs. Galen Strand and Charles Zins officiating. Burial will be in Bowman Cemetery. A wake service will be said at 7 p.m. tonight.

George Jankowski Jr. was born Sept. 1, 1937, at Enderlin, the son of George Sr. and Olive (Jerdee) Jankowski. He was raised in Enderlin, where he received his education. He graduated from Enderlin High School in 1955. George began working for the Milwaukee Railroad on the bridge and building crew. He married Patricia Pietsch on Sept. 1, 1957, at Casselton. After their marriage, George worked at the Red Owl Store in Casselton until 1960, when they moved to Fargo, where he worked as a railway clerk for the United States Post Office until 1969. In 1969, he wrote the North Dakota Game and Fish Department exam and was hired. They moved to Bowman in June of 1969 and he served as district game warden for the southwest district until the time of his death.

He was a member of Bowman Lions Club, Dickinson Elks Club, Duck's Unlimited, where he served as chairman several years. He was a member of North Dakota Game Warden Association, of which he was a founder. He was selected in 1973 for the Shikar-Safari Club Award, given to the outstanding officer of the state of North Dakota. George was certified as a firearms instructor for the department. He worked at the annual Student Science and Outdoor Skills Camp at the Logging Camp Ranch.

George was instructor for the Hunter Safety Education course for 29 years, and was active in the Bowman/Haley Anglers Association. He headed the Peace Officers Fishing Derby at Bowman/Haley Dam since its beginning and was not ready to give up the job until they entertained at least 600 children.

George lived life and lived it to the fullest; be it work or play, he gave it all he had. He was an outdoorsman who loved to hunt and spent many an hour teaching friends and children the sport. He had a unique sense of humor and wit; knowing a good joke or story was coming with the smirk he had on his face. His family was his life; he dearly loved his wife and children, and his grandchildren, and they were all held in a special place in his heart. George was a unique individual who did his job well, was a neighbor's neighbor and a friend's friend. He will be missed deeply by his family, his co-workers, and many friends in our community and others.

He is survived by his wife, Pat; one son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Erika, Colstrip, Mont.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Teri Doeden and Perry Krieger, Moorhead, Minn., Lisa Torpen and Pine Abrahamson, Bowman, and Joan and Cory Manolovits, Bowman; his mother, Olive, Enderlin; two brothers, Jerome, Beulah, and Jim, Enderlin; four sisters, Joan Bratlie and Jeanette Froemke, both of Lisbon, Audrey Wegerle, Devils Lake, and Juanita Kitchen, Middelton, Calif.; and nine grandchildren, Tashel, Brook, and Megan Torpen, Anthony and Delbert Jankowski, Amanda and Karlie Doeden, and Jada and Kara Manolovits.
