Alton Telegraph, April 24, 1997, Page 3, Col. 4: Godfrey--Bertha Gertrude Maynard, 95, died at 9:45 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, 1997, at Blu-Fountain Manor Nursing Home in Godfrey. Born Sept. 26, 1901, in Mount Vernon, she was a daughter of the late Zim and Sylvia (Foster) Brookman. A seamstress, she was employed by Alton Garment Factory for five years and the St. Louis Garment Factory. She was a dollmaker, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a friend to many. She married Lindsay Maynard, Feb. 23, 1918, in Mount Vernon. He died in 1969. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Leora and John Bradley of Godfrey, a son and daughter-in-law Marion "Bud" and Doris Maynard of Pittsburg, Calif.; 12 grandchildren including, Rita Frankford and her husband Edward, of Godfrey, Robert Bradley and his wife, Fran, of Seattle, Michael Bradley and his wife Carolyn of Godfrey, and Cheri Westbrook and her husband, Jim, of Godfrey; 30 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Vernon Maynard, a great-grandson, Michael Edward Frankford and six brothers and three sisters. Visitation will be form 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. today at Elias-Smtih Funeral Home in Godfrey. Brother Lloyd Moss will officiate. Burial will be at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto. Memorials may be made to Blu-Fountain Manor Nursing Home.
