Numa Lavergne, Dairy Farmer, Expires at 65

Numa E. Lavergne, 65, prominent Opelousas dairy farmer, died suddenly of a heart attack at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at his home on the Opelousas-Lewisburg road.

Lavergne's body is at Lafond and Son Funeral Home. Services will be held at 4 p.m. today at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church. Burial will be in Bellevue Memorial Park.

Lavergne was connected with his nephew Carol Dugal Lavergne, in the dairy farming business.

He was a charter member of Our Lady of Mercy Knights of Columbus Council, a member of the Fourth Degree K.C., a trustee of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, a member of the church usher society and a member of the executive board of the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine.

Lavergne held membership in the Southwest Louisiana Pure Milk Association and the Louisiana Certified Breeders Coop.

Survivors are his wife, the former Mathilde Smith of Opelousas; one daughter, Mrs. Lou Moseley of Opelousas; two brothers, Charles L. and Joseph D. Lavergne, both of Opelousas; five sisters, Mrs. Ben Briley of Rayne, Mrs. Leo Sibille of Lafayette, Mrs. Nap Franchebois, Mrs. E. J. Castille and Mrs. Overton Breaux all of Opelousas: one grandchild, and one great-grandchild.
