G. John Carcich
The Rev.
G. John Carcich, 82, of Southern Pines died Tuesday (April 23, 2002) at his
residence at St. Joseph of the Pines Villas.

Father Carcich was born in Mali
Losinj, Yugoslavia on Aug. 6, 1919.

Father Carcich spent his early days on
ministry in parishes in Maryland, New York and New Jersey.In 1956, he was
elected to the leadership board of the American Province of the Pallottines
where he served until 1976. In 1980, he requested permission to minister in the
Diocese of Raleigh and was assigned as associate pastor of St. Mary Parish in
Wilmington, where he remained three years.
In 1983, Father Carcich was
appointed pastor of Good Shepherd Parish in Hope Mills.He completed the
organization of this new parish and oversaw the building of its first church and
education center.

In 1987, he was named pastor of Sacred Heart Parish in
Southport.Here he shepherded a growing parish and oversaw the move of the parish
to a new and larger site with a sanctuary and education center.He retired from
this position in 1992 and was named Pastor Emeritus.

Father Carcich remained
active in ministry by assisting and substituting in various parishes around the
diocese until ill health forced him to discontinue this work in 2000.He moved
from Southport to St. Joseph of the Pines Villas in
1997.
