Opera Singer. A lyric soprano, she is remembered for her long career at the Berlin State Opera during which she specialized in the soubrette roles of Mozart. Raised in eastern Germany, she studied at her native city's Carl Maria von Weber Music Academy prior to her 1941 professional debut at Beuthen as Sophie from Richard Strauss' "Der Rosenkavalier". Lisa remained at Beuthen thru the war years, spent 1945 and 1946 in Nuremberg, sang with the Dresden State Opera from 1946 thru 1951, and in 1951 joined the Berlin State Opera where she was to remain until her retirement. Over the years Lisa was praised for her interpretations of such Mozartean characters as Susanna in "The Marriage of Figaro", Blondchen of "The Abduction from the Seraglio", Zerlina in "Don Giovanni", Papagena from "The Magic Flute", and Despina of "Cosi fan tutte". Lisa was a noted Marzelline in Beethoven's "Fidelio", Ariadne of Richard Strauss' "Ariadne auf Naxos", and Zerline from Daniel Auber's "Fra Diavolo" and was part of two world premieres, both in Berlin. On September 25, 1961 she was Cleanthus in Giselher Kleebe's "Alkmene" in a production starring Evelyn Lear and Thomas Stewart, then on April 7, 1965 she portrayed Frau Hasenfeffer in Hans Werner Henze's "Der junge Lord" under the baton of Christoph von Dohnanyi. Though based in Berlin, Lisa made guest appearances at several major venues including the Paris Opera, La Scala Milano, and the Salzburg and Glyndebourne Festivals. She sang recitals on both sides of the Atlantic, was designated Kammersangerin (KS) in 1963, made a few German cinema appearances, left the stage in 1985, lived out her days in Berlin, and died of the effects of advanced age. At her death, a number of recordings documenting her art, including complete DVDs of "Fidelio" and "Ariadne auf Naxos", were available.
