Opal Irene Brewer, 85, Elk Point died Thursday August 11, 2011.

Funeral Services were Tuesday in the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Elk Point with Rev. Erik Olson officiating. Burial was in Elk Point City Cemetery. The Berkemier Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Opal was born on August 10,1926 in Soldier, IA. She was the daughter of Ben and Anna (Ulven) Winters. She lived in Soldier, Jefferson and Elk Point. On January 14, 1942, she married Lawrence Brewer in Dakota City, NE. The couple farmed in the Elk Point area. Opal was a wonderful cook; she owned and worked at several restaurants in the area including the OK Café in Elk Point and Opie’s in Junction City. Opal loved to travel to see family and she enjoyed playing bingo.

She is survived by her husband, Lawrence of Elk Point; her daughter, Kathleen (Jesse) Mahoney of Elk Point; two sons, Darrell (Bernetta) of Elk Point and Layne “Pudge” Brewer of Williston, ND; 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Gary (Mary) Winters of Sioux City; and three sisters, Maxine (Chet) Sherrard of Florida, Nancy Van Meter of Sioux City and Dorothy (Dave) Stewart of South Sioux City, NE.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Russell and Wesley Brewer; and three sisters, Delores, Vivian and Bonni.
