Rita Kay Pierce
Rita Kay Pierce, 36, of Poland, died Monday, Oct. 27, 2003, in her residence. She had been fighting cancer for more than a year. She was born June 28, 1967, in Bloomington to Rex Cook and Shirley Giltz Cook. She was a graduate of Northview High School. Survivors include her husband, Doug Peirce, whom she married Feb. 1, 1992; one son, Douglas Alan Pierce II of Poland; her father, Rex Cook of Poland; mother-in-law, Nancy Pierce of Brazil; grandmother-in-law Inez Galbraith of Brazil; two sisters, Robin Easton and Husband, Bob of Terre Haute, and Rhonda Rhodes of New Alban; two brother; Rondald E. Sendmeyer and wife, Jennifer, of Shelburn and Randall E. Sendmeyer and wife, Shirley, of Jeffersonville; one brother-in-law, Kevin Pierce of Brazil and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Shirley Cook, who died March 10, 2003. She enjoyed feeding the hummingbirds and working in her flowerbeds at home. She was a member of the Nazarene Church in Jordan Village. At her request she will be cremated. There are no services or visitation. Lawson-Slack Funeral Home is handling arrangements. If friends so desire memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Poland Park.
