Nelle, 95, formerly of Whiteville, died peacefully at her home with her family.

She was born the youngest of eleven children to the late Savannah Silver and Thomas Howell Allison.

A graduate of Asheville Normal Teachers College, she took her first teaching assignment in Ash, NC, where she met her future husband, David Berdine McKeithan.

They were married on July 5, 1937, and later moved to Whiteville where she taught for 37 years until her retirement.

Mrs. McKeithan was a member of the Whiteville United Methodist Church and remained active with her church, Sunday school and women’s group for many years.

The last surviving member of her family, Mrs. McKeithan was preceded in death by her husband, David Berdine McKeithan and infant son, David Howell McKeithan.

Mrs. McKeithan is survived by her daughter, Nell Berdine Wilson and her husband, Ronald Gray Singletary; grandchildren, David B. Singletary, Sheila A. Moneypenny and husband Joe, Ronald G. Wilson Jr. and Kimberly Leigh Wilson; two great-grandchildren, Megan E. Singletary and Robert Joseph Moneypenny II, all of the home. She is also survived by nieces, Mary Sue Glovier Helen Watts, Ruby McArthur and Edna Bradley of Old Fort, NC, and Robbie Sue Brinkley and Ella Dean Ellison of Mobile, Alabama; and one nephew, Arthur Allison of Old Fort, NC; two sisters-in-law, Dottie Bell Wright of Nakina and Annie Jane Perry of Mullins, SC.
