James Cooper Cooper was born James Cooper Tuthill while his parents Christopher Tuthill and Grace Tuthill (nee Reeves) were staying with James and Honora Cooper at Cooper Hill. Hence his middle name of Cooper. Honora Cooper became his Godmother. He entered Trinity College, Dublin in 1843 at the age of 18 under the name of James Tuthill. Honora Cooper died in 1844 and in her will left much of the estate of Cooper Hill to her Godson James on the condition that he change his surname to Cooper. This he did later in 1844 so he became James Cooper Cooper.
In 1847 he married 18 year old Mary Pickering.
He was a magistrate for Co. Limerick and in the 1870's owned over 1000 acres in County Limerick
