Aurora, Nebraska resident, SFC Shawn Wayne Young, 44, passed away Tuesday, September 17, 2013 as a result of a traffic accident in Indiana. Shawn was born September 22, 1968 in Lincoln, Nebraska to Rockford L. & Juanita J. (Wilson) Young.

Shawn graduated from Lincoln High School in 1987 and was a state gymnast for two years. Shawn entered the U.S. Army on January 26, 1986; he was stationed in Germany from 1988–1990 and was deployed to Bosnia from 1989-1990. He was deployed to Desert Shield and Desert Storm from 1991-1992. Shawn served a combat tour in Iraq from 2004-2005 with the 561st CSG. He was on the Nebraska Army National Guard Marksmanship Team and was currently assigned to Det. 1 Training Site Command, Hastings, Nebraska. He was also a Calvary Scout for over 10 years and he was an expert marksman pistol and rifle. Shawn was a Range Operations Specialist and the military was his life. Shawn was awarded the following military awards: Bronze Star, two Meritorious Service medals, nine Army Commendation medals, and two National Defense Service medals and numerous other service awards. He married Melissa L. Richter on August 14, 2004. They moved from Kearney to Sutton in 2008 and moved to Aurora in 2012. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church Hastings, Nebraska Sutton American Legion, Wounded Warrior Project, and NRA.

Kaetlyn Young – Aurora, NE.
Mother & Step-Father: Juanita & John Tucker – Roca, NE.
Father: Rockford Young – Lincoln, NE.
Grandfather: LeRoy Watson – Fremont, NE.
Brothers: Christopher Young – Roca, NE.
Anthony Young – Roca, NE.

Burial was with military rites by the Nebraska Army National Guard Military Funeral Honors Team in Wyuka Cemetery, Lincoln, Nebraska.
