Herbert Watkins "June" departed this life on Monday, September 16, 2013, at Fairmont Crossing. He was born on November 11, 1926 to the late Herbert and Fayola Watkins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Watkins. Herbert is survived by his daughter, Erna Sandidge (Gordon) of Amherst; two grandsons, Vernon Parrish Jr. (Edith) of Lynchburg and Scott Sandidge (Desiree) of Madison Heights; one great- grandson, Tristan Parrish of Lynchburg; one great- granddaughter, Mia Sandidge of Madison Heights; one sister, Ethel W. Hill of Lynchburg; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. The family extends its grateful appreciation to the staff at the "Meadows" Fairmont Crossing, Amherst for the loving care their loved one received. A funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, September 21, 2013. at Scott Zion Baptist Church. Interment will be held at the church cemetery. Military Rites will be provided by American Legion Post 16. His remains will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service.
