Mary Ann Gonzáles, age 92, left this world the morning of Tuesday, September 17, 2013 to be with family and friends gone before.
We will miss her gentle spirit, warm demeanor and generous manner.
Mary Ann Gonzáles owned and operated the local Mary and Tito's Café for over 50 years, which had the distinction of winning the prestigious James Beard Award. Many will miss her, and all will remember her selfless contributions to the business community of Albuquerque.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Florian and Amelia García, sisters, Rosina Krause, Frances Martínez, Fina Rivera and Tillie M. Gonzáles.
Loving mother, she is survived by her three daughters, Marsha Regina Gonzáles, Antoinette Knight and Susan Lee Sweeney, brother, Mike T. García, niece, Amelia Irene Williams, six grandsons, Eric Andres Knight, Jordan Henery Knight, Travis Marshal Knight, Paul D. Sweeney, Johnathan Andres Sweeney and Jhette Gonzáles-Durán, two great-grandchildren, Xavier Benton Knight and Lilliana Elena Gonzáles-Durán, whom she cherished and adored. Her six grandsons can give testament of her enduring strength, commitment, unconditional love and integrity.
Mary Ann's family settled in Santa Fé in the 1800s. Their legacy remains as one of New Mexico's premier families.
Non-assuming, loving, caring and independent are words that will be used to recall the life of Mary Ann Gonzáles.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, September 23, 2013, at San Felipe de Neri Catholic Church, 2005 North Plaza Street NW, Albuquerque, NM. Inurnment to follow at Vista Verde Memorial Park, 4310 Sara Road SE, Rio Rancho, NM.
