Joan Boeding, 84, of Donahue, Iowa, passed away at 3:15 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013, at Genesis Medical Center-East Rusholme Street, Davenport.

Funeral services and a Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Ann's Catholic Church, 16550 290th St., Long Grove.

Joan Fitzgerald was born Aug. 24, 1929, in Fort Madison, Iowa, the daughter of Benjamin Franklin "Joe" and Frances (McMahon) Fitzgerald.

Joan Fitzgerald married Raymond R. Boeding on Dec. 26, 1953, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fort Madison, Iowa. Joan graduated from Mercy Hospital Nursing School of Nursing in 1950. She received her R.N. and achieved the highest score on the State Board of Nursing Examiners in 1950. She went on to work at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City from 1950 to 1956, where she was Head Surgical Nurse. Joan served as school nurse in the North Scott Community School District from 1970 to 1991.

Joan was a loving wife and mother who had many interests throughout her life. She was a member of St. Ann's Parish and the Guild. She and Ray met in Iowa City, and she was a lifelong Hawkeye fan. She was an avid seamstress and taught her daughters how to sew. She and Ray enjoyed dancing for many years and were active dancers, especially swing. One of their favorite activities was playing euchre as part of the Donahue Euchre Club. Joan was an avid reader and was commonly in the middle of one of her favorite author's newest books. If she wasn't reading, she was likely solving the crossword puzzle in the newspaper.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made for Masses to be offered in her memory, or to the St. Ann's Church Building Fund or the Eldridge Library.

Those left to honor her memory include her husband of almost 60 years, Ray Boeding of Donahue; four children, JoEllen Peace (Art) and their daughter, Alexandra of Eldridge; Mike Boeding (Lynn) and their three children, Eric, Sara and Anna of Houston, Texas; Susan Boeding (Mike Metzinger) of Oconomowoc, Wis., and Donald Boeding (Lisa) and their three children, Alex, Marissa and Madeline of Cincinnati, Ohio; and a sister, Patricia Arie, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Joseph. May they rest in peace.
