SGT. Stephen Todd Carr, 33 years of age of Rowe, VA, passed away Saturday, February 19, 2011, in Salem, VA. Born in La Follette, TN, Tuesday, October 11, 1977, he was the son of Clarence Carr and Marie Pinion Carr of New River, VA.

Stephen was a 1995 Graduate of Garden High School, attended SWVCC, avid outdoorsman, enjoyed paintball and softball. He is currently serving as a U.S. Army National Guardsman, stationed out of 1033rd Engineer Support Company, Richlands, VA. He was a Veteran of the IRAQ War, having served two tours of duty. He received several medals including, Medal of Valor for helping save his fellow Soldiers during a conflict in the Northern Peninsula of IRAQ.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Isaac Samuel Hurley; nephew, James Preston Curt Hurley and his foster mother, Gladesie Whited.

He is survived by his parents, Clarence Carr and Marie Pinion Carr of New River, VA and Alfred Hurley and Linda Hurley of Hurley, VA; his wife of 10 years, Katrina Hurley Carr of Rowe, VA; daughter, Kristen Faith Hurley of Hurley, VA; son, Isaac Stephen Carr of the Home; sisters, Angelique Davis of New River, VA, Lori Hurley of Hurley, VA, Miranda May of Narrows, VA, Lynn Whited of Oakwood, VA; twin brother, Quentin Carr of Lebanon, VA; brothers, Jerry Hurley of Oakwood, VA, Sherman Whited of Grundy, VA and his foster dad, Ed Whited of Oakwood, VA; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for SGT. Stephen Todd Carr will be conducted Thursday, February 24, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at the Word Evangelist Outreach Church (WEO), Hurley, VA with Pastor Darrell Davis and Brother Ray officiating. Burial will follow in the Dan Blankenship Cemetery on Main Knox, Hurley, VA.

Honor Guard of the Army National Guard, 1033rd Engineer Support Company, Richlands, VA will serve as active pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers: Quentin Carr, Jerry Hurley, Derek Nickles, Randy May, Sherman Whited, Bobby Duty and Joseph Kinder.

The family will receive friends at the WEO church after 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, evening service will be held at 7:00 p.m..

Full military rites will be conducted at the cemetery by the Honor Guard of the Army National Guard, 1033rd Engineer Support Company.
