On January 4, 1950 Reuben was united in marriage to Bernice Rose Sweere and their marriage was blessed with four children. They traveled for seven years around Minnesota while Reuben was working on road construction. Then in 1957, they purchased a farm in Homestead Township, north of New York Mills. After 18 years of dairy farming, they sold the farm in 1975 and moved into New York Mills. Reuben retired from road construction in November of 2000. He contributed to his community by serving on several Board of Directors including: Apostolic Lutheran Church, Woodland Cemetery, Elder's Home, Elders' Home Foundation, and also as President of Finn Creek Museum. He enjoyed woodworking, golfing and fishing, especially winter fishing. On May 24, Reuben passed away at home with his family by his side, and while under the care of Red River Valley Hospice. He was 85 years of age. Reuben will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Preceding Reuben in death were his parents, Andrew and Senia; sister, Elsie Isaacson; brothers, Wilbert, Verner and Ernest Anderson; brother-in-law, Marvin Isaacson; sister-in-laws, Lorraine Anderson and Evelyn Anderson.
Reuben is survived by his wife, Bernice of New York Mills; brothers: Reino (Jean) Anderson of Park Rapids, Rudy (Mary) Anderson of Blaine, daughters: Kathleen (Dean) Simpson of New York Mills; Joyce (John) Boubel of San Antonio, TX; Diane (Terry) Hepola of Perham; son, Douglas (Melissa) Anderson of Elk River. 12 grandchildren: Brendt (Nicole) Simpson, Kristen (Jim) Chandler, Sarah (John) Damhof, Beth (Mark) Carlock, Shawn (Kara) Boubel, Andrew, Travis, Matthew Boubel, Cory (Camille) Hepola, Chelsea (Andy) Marthaler, Melanie, Brianna Anderson. 10 great-grandchildren: Thomas, Katelyn Simpson; Brooks, Maxwell Chandler; Sophie Damhof; Dane Carlock; Zachary, Allison, Wyatt Boubel; Dru Marthaler; many nieces and nephews.
