Reuben Arnold Anderson was born on April 21, 1928 in New York Mills, MN. His parents were the late Andrew and Senia (Koski) Anderson. Reuben spent his younger years on the family farm in Newton Township, attending school at District #105. When his father, Andrew, passed away in 1940, Senia moved the Anderson family into New York Mills. Reuben attended New York Mills High School until 11th grade and then joined, and proudly served, in the United States Navy from 1946-1948. He received his New York Mills High School diploma while serving in the military. When Reuben returned home, he worked road construction as a heavy equipment operator and continued this profession for 50 years.

On January 4, 1950 Reuben was united in marriage to Bernice Rose Sweere and their marriage was blessed with four children. They traveled for seven years around Minnesota while Reuben was working on road construction. Then in 1957, they purchased a farm in Homestead Township, north of New York Mills. After 18 years of dairy farming, they sold the farm in 1975 and moved into New York Mills. Reuben retired from road construction in November of 2000. He contributed to his community by serving on several Board of Directors including: Apostolic Lutheran Church, Woodland Cemetery, Elder's Home, Elders' Home Foundation, and also as President of Finn Creek Museum. He enjoyed woodworking, golfing and fishing, especially winter fishing. On May 24, Reuben passed away at home with his family by his side, and while under the care of Red River Valley Hospice.
