Helen T. Taber, 91, a resident of Pawling, N.Y. for more than sixty-six years, died Friday Sept. 2nd at St. Francis Hospital, Poughkeepsie, N.Y. after a brief illness. She was the widow of William F. Taber.

Mrs. Taber was born June 5, 1914 in Woodbury, daughter of the late Edna Wells Travers and James Travers.

She graduated from Woodbury High School in 1932 and from Danbury Normal School in 1935. She later earned a bachelor's degree from in elementary education from Danbury State College.

Mrs. Taber taught in one-room schools in Sherman and in Roxbury before her marriage in 1939. She later taught first and second grades for more than twenty years at Pawling Central School.

A very active member of the Sherman Church for more than sixty years, she was a longtime Deacon, a Sunday school teacher and a member of Friendly Service.

She is survived by grandsons, Jason Fassett of Dover Plains, N.Y. and Christopher Fassett of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughters, Mary Ann Taber and Susan Taber Fassett; and her brother, Sherwood Travers.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday September 10th at the Sherman Church, 6 Church Road, Sherman. There are no calling hours. Burial will be in the Sherman North Cemetery. Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, to the Book of Remembrance of the Sherman Church, 6 Church Road, Sherman, CT 06784.
