Thompson, John Harvey-After an arduous journey from Buncombe County, NC, John H. Thompson, his family and two of his brothers and their families arrived in Harlan County, KY ca. 1834. They found their niche on the Wilson Branch of Yellow Creek, the middle fork at the head of Williams Branch. He would acquire 900 acres. John Harvey Thompson, born 1796 in Virginia married Nancy, born 1801 in North Carolina; their family from census and 1856 property settlement.

Mary (Aunt Polly Thus) born ca 1821 North Carolina, married Levy Hoskins and William Miracle. Nancy, born 1822 , North Carolina, married Ambrose Miracle, born 1822 Kentucky. He was the son of James and Orpha Miracle. Elizabeth born 1824 North Carolina, married Abraham Miracle, born 1824, Kentucky, the son of James and Orpha Miracle. George P. Thompson, born 1827 North Carolina , married Louisa Jane Green, born 1826, Kentucky the daughter of David and Ruth Green. Sarah, born 1829 North Carolina, married Barnett S. Arnett, born 1830 Kentucky, son of Elias and Elizabeth Salyers Arnett. John Harvey, born 1833 North Carolina, married Nancy Wilson on March 4, 1852 by Robert Wilson in Harlan County. She was the daughter of Henry and Marg Sparks Wilson. James Calvin, born May 8, 1835, married Nove. 24, 1853 to Nancy Wilder the daughter of Sampson and Ann Estep Wilder. William born 1840, as he is not listed in property settlement apparently died prior to 1855. Wilkerson, born 1838, Kentucky, died 1921, married Jan. 22, 1855 to Lurinda Wilson the daughter of Henry and Marg Sparks Wilson. Their family settled in the Greasy Creek area. Nathan Mac, born 1842 Kentucky, married (Millie) Margaret Stewart the daughter of James and Elizabeth Colson Stewart.
As they married, several of the Thompson children established homes on Brownies Creek. Among them: Aunt Polly Thus, Elizabeth, John Harvey and Wilkerson (before going to Greasy Creek). Submitted by Sara Thompson
