Archibald Andrew "Arch" Angel was born about 1775 in the British Province of North Carolina. He was the son of William Angel II (1752-1852) and Mary Rachel Godwin (1752- 1841/50). His father was a migrant (early 1770s) from Great Britain.

Arch's father, William II, born in/near the little hamlet of Tugford in Shropshire, England, had immigrated to America as a young adult (18-23). He died in 1852 in Charlotte Co., Virginia near the age of 100. He is thought to have been the son of William Angel I (abt 1724-1800) and Mary Partridge (abt 1728-1804), both of whom were born in England and who apparently lived and died there.

Little is known about Arch's mother, Mary. She is thought to have been born in the British Province of North Carolina and that she and William II were married there about 1774. Some believe her to have been the daughter of Jonathon Godwin (1723-1791) and Rachel Bullard (1735-1798). Jonathon was born in the British Province of Virginia, while Rachel was born in the British Province of Pennsylvania. Both died in Sampson Co., NC.

About 1804 (possibly earlier), Arch married Nancy Ann Trammell (1782-1829), probably in Washington Co., Tennessee. She was the daughter of Revolutionary War soldier, Dennis Trammel (1759-1849) and Elizabeth Brassfield (?) (abt 1757-abt 1820). It is unknown as to whether Brassfield was Elizabeth's maiden name or her name from a brief earlier marriage.

By 1810, Arch and Nancy had migrated to Campbell Co., TN and owned 298 acres on Pine Creek. Dennis Trammell, father of Arch's wife, Nancy, lived nearby. The two families may have migrated to the area together. Arch's land eventually became known as Angel Valley and is now part of Scott County which was formed in 1849.

Arch and Nancy were married for at least 25 years and had six known children. They were James Angel Sr.(1806-bet 1860/70), Thomas Angel (1814-1851), Milla "Millie" Angel (1816-bef 1851), Dennis Angel (1819-1858), Nancy Ann Angel (abt 1820-bet 1892/1900) and Elizabeth Jane "Eliza" Angel (1824-1891). All but their son, Thomas, married members of the King family. Most likely, Arch and Nancy Ann had other unknown children who died at/near birth or who did not reach adulthood.

Arch's wife, Nancy, died on Jan. 28, 1829 in Campbell Co., TN about the age of 47. Buried on their family farm, she was one of the earliest burials in what is now known as the Angel-Wright Cemetery (aka Angel Cemetery). Three years earlier, her brother, James Trammell (1774-1826), was the first known adult to be buried there. Although his headstone has been damaged by cattle he still has the oldest readable marker in the cemetery, possibly in all of Scott County.

On November 9, 1832, Arch (58 and a widower) married a second time. He married 23 year old Charlotte "Charlottie" Trammell (abt 1810-bet 1880/1900). While her parents are uncertain they may have been James Trammell (1774-1826) and Rachel Starks (1793-1871). James was a brother to the father of Arch's first wife, Nancy Ann Trammell. Charlotte was obviously related to Arch's his first wife, Nancy.

Arch and Charlotte were married for 14 years and had five known children. They were Malinda Angel (1834-1911), Lucinda Angel (1835-1902), John Angel (1838-1862), Mahulda Ann "Hulda" Angel (1841-aft 1880) and Helen Mary Angel (1843-aft 1860).

Archibald died on July 14, 1847 in Campbell Co., TN at the age of 72. At the time of his death, his 33 year old son, Thomas, who was living nearby, was appointed executor of his estate. Thomas died just four years later (1851).

Like his first wife, Arch was buried on the family farm in what then called the Angel Cemetery. There are 160+ grave sites in this cemetery that are now unidentifiable. Arch and his wife, Nancy Trammell, are though to be buried near his wife's brother, James Trammell, in graves that are now unmarked or have markers that are no longer readable. Many of the markers in this cemetery are just field stones. At the time of Arch and Nancy's deaths (1847/1826), Angel Valley was a part of NE Campbell County, TN. Today it is a part of NW Scott County (1849).

After Arch's death in 1847, his second wife, Charlotte (37), married 63 year old widower, Jacob Lafever (1785-1858) in 1848. A 1852 Tennessee court record shows Jacob as the guardian for Charlotte & Archibald's three living minor children (John, Hulda & Helen).

Following Jacob's death in 1858, Charlotte (48) did not remarry. She last appears in the 1880 census. Her widowed daughter, Hulda, and Hulda's son, Pharaoh (1875-?), are living with her. Charlotte is thought to have died in Wayne Co., KY between 1880-1900. Her burial site is currently unknown.
