Charles Burton Purl was born 11 Jan 1910 in Excelsior, Morgan Co, Missouri to parents, Millie Rebecca Hutchison and Marten Uriah Purl. On Christmas Eve, 1930 Chuck married Norma Lucille Addington, daughter of Gertrude Purdue and Claud Earl Addington from Boonville, Indiana.
They had two children.

In 1943 Chuck enlisted in the army. He was a rifleman in support of heavy artillery in the Battle of the Bulge. Chuck was a recipient of the Purple Heart because of injuries he sustained due to gunshot wounds in his left arm. He lost the use of that arm for his lifetime.
