Burial was at Delhi Masonic Cemetery.
Mr. Sykes died early Sunday morning in the Lakewood Hospital at Morgan City after a short illness.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Dusty Sykes of Morgan City; three sons, Charles Sykes of Opelousas, Richard Sykes of Wichita, Kan., and Max Sykes of Odessa, Tex.; three daughters, Mrs. Wesley Mae Terrel of Morgan City, Mrs. Florece Kerr of Morgan City, and Mrs. Ollie Faye McCartney of Baytown, Tex.; one brother, Wyatt Sykes of Bastrop; three sisters, Mrs. Epsie Donahoe of Delhi, Mrs. Vella Cathey of Monroe, and Mrs. Alice Fairchild of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; 19 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren.
