Sandra D. Mitchell Stanley passed away on September 9, 2013. Sandy was predeceased by her husband of 40 years, Edwin L. Stanley Jr., M.D. They retired to Indian Harbour Beach, FL in 1997 from Kettering, OH. They were of the Presbyterian faith, supporters of the arts and were recognized for their philanthropcial endeavors. Sandy was a registered nurse, graduating in 1960 from The Miami Valley Hospital School of Nursing in Dayton, OH. In Ohio, Sandy was an active participant in her community; she was a Board Member for the Dayton Opera Guild and the Montgomery County Medical Society Auxiliary; a member of the Gem City Chapter Sweet Adelines (National Award Winners); the President of the Parent Teacher Association; and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. In Florida, Sandy was a Board Member to the Brevard Symphony Orchestra Guild and The Eau Gallie Yacht Club's Women's Advisory Council. Being an accomplished pianist, Sandy performed regularly for the Brevard Symphony Orchestra Guild; private parties, fashion shows, fund raisers and the Brevard Alzheimer's Foundation; of which, she contributed the proceeds from her book "God Wants Us To Laugh". In both Ohio and Florida, Sandy won awards for her photography, in baking competitions, downhill snow skiing and weekly bridge tournaments. Sandy's memory is preserved by her son Edwin L. Stanley III of Kansas City, MO; daughter Dr. Mary Stanley Beattie and son-in-law, Dr. Eric Beattie of San Fransisco, CA; granddaughters Megan and Anna Beattie of San Francisco, CA; brother Ronald and sister-in-law and Sue Mitchell of Cincinnati, OH; sister-in-law Barbara Hopping of Peachtree City, GA; and sister-in-law Phyllis Howard of Harrison Township, MI. In lieu of flowers, Sandy's legacy may be honored with donations to the of your choice . There will be no funeral services held, per the wishes of Sandy and her family.
