Joseph met the first love of his life, Margaret F. Dix, in Leavenworth, Kansas. Joseph and Margaret were married in 1950 and raised a family of seven boys and three girls. They enjoyed many wonderful years together until Margaret's death in 1999. Joseph had a long career working in Leavenworth at Donovan's Moving and Storage, B.F. Goodrich, and then as a Correctional Counselor at the U.S. Penitentiary in Leavenworth, Kansas, until he retired in 1988. Joseph was devoted to his family, but also enjoyed volunteering his service with Meals on Wheels, assisting those less fortunate at Medicalodge Nursing Home, lending a hand at St. Joseph's Parish, and singing in the church choir. Joseph shared these later years with another love, Helen L. Drake. Joseph married Helen in 2001 and enjoyed many special times with her until her passing in 2008.
Joseph is survived by six sons and one son-in-law, three daughters and four daughters-in-law: Carol Kolb of Overland Park, Kan.; Therese Kolb of Leavenworth, Kan.; Dorothy Plummer and husband Larry Plummer of Lacon, Ill.; Kenneth Kolb and wife Nhien Kolb of Houston, Texas; Charles Kolb of Springfield, Mo.; Christopher Kolb and wife Michele Kolb of Severn, Md.; Ronald Kolb and wife Shantil Kolb of Broken Arrow, Okla.; Robert Kolb and wife Jennifer Kolb of Olathe, Kan.; and John Kolb of Leavenworth, Kan. Joseph is also survived by 37 grand and great-grand children. Joseph was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters Mary Dix, Catherine Trapp and Florence Hund; his first wife, Margaret, and second wife, Helen; and by his eldest son, Joseph S. Kolb.
