She was born at Wanego, a daughter of the late Henry and Leona Hester Keen Hunt Sr. She spent most of her youth on the Hunt farm at Tariff. She and her husband, Gene F. Elmore Sr., built and lived in a house on Oak Drive Addition outside of Spencer for 62 years. They traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and part of Canada. She was a 57-year member of First Baptist Church of Spencer, where she had served as secretary and in many other positions of service. She was a charter member of the Junior Woman's Club, Roane County Historical Society and the Roane General Hospital Auxiliary, of which she was a past president. She served as a volunteer with the Gray Ladies, Junior and Senior Woman's Clubs and as a poll worker during many elections.
She was a chaperone for several Spencer High School band trips for all three of her children. She was a chaperone for the SHS class of 1959 for several activities. She was a member of Wetzel Chapter #27 Order of the Eastern Star, where she had served as Worthy Matron. She had been Mother Advisor of the Rainbow Girls, Chapter 3, of Spencer, for which she was awarded the Grand Cross of Color. She was a longtime member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was employed as an administrative assistant for the W.Va. State Road Commission in Roane County and at Spencer Manufacturing Company (later Kellwood).
She is survived by her daughters, Sondra Reger of Finksburg, Md., and Virginia "Ginny" Bulmer of Rye, N.H.; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Gene F. Elmore Jr.; brothers, Ferris Hunt, Robert Hunt, Lawrence Bruce Hunt and George Henry Hunt Jr.; sisters, Mabel Jarrett and Evelyn Looney Bentle.
Service will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at John H. Taylor Funeral Home, with Rev. Michael F. "Mike" King officiating. Burial will be in Clover Cemetery.
