Thomas Dawson Jordan, Sr.was born in the year 1877 in Glasgow, KY. Mr.Jordan was first married to Pernie S. McIlwain of Bowling Green, KY.in 1902. They were the parents of two Sons, Thomas Dawson Jordan, Jr. and William Jordan, they also had an adopted Daughter Beulah Jordan. Pernie passed away in 1915 along with their younger Son William from "The Fever" while they were residing in Jacksonville, FL. He then married Nell Doris Willis of Macon, GA on January 1, 1917. Mr.Thomas Dawson Jordan Sr. was a native of Glasgow, KY. He learned telegraphy while still in school and was hired as a Telegraph Operator upon finishing at age seventeen. He worked at the Glasgow Train Station for a while, and then using his skill travelled thru the West picking up a living as a Telegrapher at towns as far west as Arizona and New Mexico. He even worked his way to Cuba during the Spanish-American War and hired out as a Reporter sending "wires" on the progress of the war back to a Paper in the US over one of the first underwater cables. He eventually settled down with his new Wife Pernie in Bowling Green, KY He was a "Commercial Salesman" for the Bowling Flour Mills travelling through the South and lived in Jacksonville, FL for a while.He then began a series of Sales Jobs with paint companies and Petroleum Companies. He eventually moved to Nashville becoming an Oil Broker and owning his own business "Imperial Petroleum Company" in Nashville, TN. in the 1920's. Mr. Jordan's second Wife Nell died in 1927. He was left with the care of six children whom he looked after with the help of his Sister, Maud B. Jordan. Mr Jordan's survivors at his passing in 1946 were his Sister, Maud Blakey Jordan, his Daughter, Doris Minnie Jordan King, his sons, Edward Lawrence Jordan, and twins Vernon Thomas Jordan & Victor Willis Jordan. He was preceded in death by his Sons, Thomas Dawson Jordan Jr. and Lee Oliver Jordan. His adopted Daughter, Beulah married a man from Pittsburg, PA and moved there in about 1920. Mr. Jordan was a lifelong Salesman and in his later years was a manager at a Department Store in downtown Nashville, TN. Mr Jordan was loved by his Children and was proud of the Military Service of his three Sons in WW II. He succumbed to "Hardening of the Arteries" in Feb. 1946 at age sixty-eight years. He is buried beside his 2nd Wife Nellie Doris Willis Jordan in the Family plot along with four of his Sons and one Daughter-In-Law, Mary Leona Miller Jordan.
