Larry Loyd Buffington was a vibrant passionate man. He was born July 5, 1944 in Custer, S.D. and moved to Idaho in 1945 with his father, mother and siblings. He passed away at the residence and two acres of the original 30 that he grew up on just south of Nampa. He attended a country elementary school, Southside Boulevard. He also attended Central Junior High, and graduated from Nampa High School in 1962. He then married his high school sweetheart Theodosia (Smith) Buffington on Aug. 18, 1963. He worked at Stones Poultry, Fleetwood, and then in 1970 he went to work for Boise City Fire Department, where he worked until he retired after 25 years of dedicated service in September 1995. In December 1994 he was elected one of three Nampa city fire commissioners; during his commission he helped reform the City of Nampa Fire Department and rural fire district, which was a tribute to his continuing dedication to help others. During his time after retirement in October 1995 he began to drive for Brown Bus Company and also co-owned (with his son Eugene) an electrical contracting company. In his passing he is survived by his wife Theodosia (Smith) Buffington; three children, Loyd W. Buffington (wife Becky, and three children, Amy, Amber and Austin), Eugene R. Buffington (wife Theresa, and four children, Nicole, Eugene Jr., Matthew, and Kathleen), and Rebecca Buffington Jaques (husband Christopher, and son Aedhon); three siblings, Floyd Ayers (wife Joan), Hazel Hardy, and M. Dean Buffington (wife Judy); as well as several nieces and nephews. Those who have preceded him include one brother (Edgar Ayers 1992), his father (Loyd 1953) and mother (Gladys 2002), and one grandchild (Emily Buffington 1995). He enjoyed traveling with his wife, hunting with his sons and grandsons, and camping with his daughter. He is a beloved man, whose passion and lust for life has been felt by everyone he has come to meet. After a short bout with cancer, the Heavenly Father received him on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2005. Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2005 at Alsip & Persons Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, 2005 at Alsip & Persons Funeral Chapel, 404 10th Ave South, Nampa; 466-3545. Burial will be at Kohlerlawn Cemetery.
